We may be doomed…Why, you say? Because we rely on technology at the expense of actually learning how to do things . We choose to remain unskilled for the sake of comfort and ease. The cost? We are lost if the technology serving us is removed.
Ask yourself - if global GPS was to go down, would you be able to figure out how to get to a new destination? If the web was to go down, how would you learn how to play guitar, fix a flat tire, repair your dishwasher? My guess would be ‘no’ to most of these questions. The fact is that we have become so dependent on this technology that many of us, especially those who were born in the cell phone era, have no idea how to do certain things that were second nature just 10 years ago. In addition, as we surrender ourselves to our laziness and desire for instant gratification we begin to rob ourselves of the satisfaction of creating things ourselves.
Yes, technology does make things simpler and quicker but do they make things better? I’m not really sure. Do we really need to use technology for EVERYTHING?
Also, I was under the impression that we are on this planet to bring joy, love and fulfillment in our lives. Creativity and the spiritual growth that comes from making things is a big part of this and AI is poised to rob us of this or at least distract a great many of us from this fact.
I am sure that AI will continue to ‘invade’ our lives but hopefully we will be diligent and will keep close to our hearts our love of being creative and sharing our ideas and love through art.
